Start the day in perfect Anglo-Saxon style by preparing a cold porridge!
This oats bowl based dish is also known as "oatmeal" but be warned: its anything but tasteless!
Why is oats a cereal that is so good for us and is an excellent ingredient to be included in our daily diet?
Oats: nutritional properties and characteristics
Oats (Avena sativa) is a cereal rich in beneficial properties.
Thanks to the large amount of fiber, the high quality of carbohydrates and proteins and the presence of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, mineral salts, enzymes, oats are one of the best cereals in terms of nutrition.
With oats we can make breakfasts, snacks but also versatile, healthy and delicious lunches.
In fact, its enough to vary the ingredients with which it is combined et voilà, we can create infinite sweet or savory dishes (for example, here is a salty and protein porridge recipe to try!).
Oats are also a perfect cereal for:
- vegans
- celiac or gluten intolerant (oats are naturally gluten-free cereals)
- lactose intolerant
Porridge: what it is and how to prepare
Porridge's word can be translated as "oatmeal" since the main ingredient is this cereal.
Its a very simple and versatile preparation that is obtained by boiling oat flakes in water or milk (cow or vegetable), to which seasonal fruit, dried fruit creams, fondant, dried fruit, seeds or spices are added to taste.
Porridge, which can be eaten hot or cold, is an excellent alternative to the classic breakfast but, above all, a healthy choice.
Frozen porridge
We can create many variations of porridge always using flakes and oatmeal.
Frozen porridge or "cold porridge" is one example.
This version always involves cooking the cereal in water or milk but will be transferred to the fridge to rest for a few hours or, better still, overnight, to be consumed in the morning.
Overnight oats
If you are a person who is in a hurry but who does not want (and must not) give up breakfast, the overnight oats is the no-cooking solution for you.
This breakfast is prepared the day before and left in the refrigerator overnight with no need for cooking.
Just put the oats in the chosen liquid which, during the night, will be completely absorbed by the cereal and, in the morning, it will have a soft and creamy consistency ready to be enjoyed.
Recipe for protein frozen porridge
Today I decided to prepare one of the versions I love most: frozen porridge.
A creamy cup, without sugar, rich in proteins and Vitamins of Group B thanks to the use of About Breakfast, the flavored oat flour to obtain an even stronger taste and the addition of Smile Crunch organic banana flavored peanut cream.
I'm sure you will start to love oats and use it every day like me!
Ingredients For the base:
25g of About Breakfast Vanilla flavor
25g of Smile Crunch organic whole oat flakes
10g of hazelnut cream flavored oatmeal
300g of water
For the cocoa cream:
15g of bitter cocoa
40g of cold water
2-3 drops of Diete.Tic (or other sweetener)
Optional ingredients:
Blueberries
Sliced banana
Cinnamon
1 teaspoon of 100% Bio Smile Crunch peanut cream flavored with banana
Method For the porridge:
Pour all the dry ingredients into a saucepan: the protein preparation, the oatmeal and the flakes.
Pour part of the water required for cooking into the saucepan, enough to cover them.
Bring to the fire (small stove over low heat) and start cooking, taking care to always turn the porridge to prevent it from sticking to the bottom (use a silicone spatula to avoid damaging your pans).
During cooking, when the mixture begins to thicken, pour in the remaining water.
Pour the mixture into a cup and set aside.
For the cocoa cream:
In a small container pour the bitter cocoa and, on top, the water.
Stir with a teaspoon until we have dissolved all the lumps and the consistency is creamy.
Combine the sweetener and turn well.
Take the cup of porridge and cover it with the cocoa cream with the help of a teaspoon.
Put in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, the cocoa cream will have become a pudding and our porridge a cream.
We just have to add the fruit, the peanut cream, sprinkle with cinnamon and sink the spoon!
